• Are sash windows more expensive than traditional windows?
No, but you should compare our mixed woodwork with the French style mixed windows. Also, our carpentry woodwork installs well on mixed wood-aluminium and is more expensive than the all-wood carpentry.
• Is this type of window authorized in France ?
Yes, because we benefit from the SMABTP’s decennial guarantee. Many companies think that this type of window is dangerous, but they are thinking of the sash windows from forty years ago, equipped a cord and counterweight. If the string broke, the panel could effectively descend like a guillotine. Marvin sash windows work with springs and pulleys and the panel never descends quickly, even if it breaks.
• Which is the average delay for this type of window?
You should anticipate an average of 8 to 12 weeks depending on the order date (at the beginning or the end of filling a shipment container).
• Where can I see these windows?
Our sales representatives all have show models, or make an appointment to see our Show Room.
• Is installation more complex than for traditional windows?
No. It is recommended that you install a tunnel first, because these are American windows and if used in indoor applications, part of the frame is hidden.
• If the glass breaks, can it be easily replaced?
Considering that this type of window is fitted with glass panes with thicknesses specific to the USA, and that the entire system of springs and pulleys is created depending on the weight of that glass, the glass cannot be changed in France. You can contact SCB to order a new panel. Still, the price is not very different from replacing a pane of glass here in France. You must allow between 2 and 3 weeks for the delivery of the product by air.
• Can I benefit from an tax credit on Marvin woodwork?
If a client exchanges existing woodwork for simple glasswork by Marvin woodwork, which are equipped with low emission double panes with argon insulating gas, they may claim the value of the woodwork on their taxes on the condition that they possess a supplier’s invoice from a qualified professional. As SCB does not offer installation services, this action is possible but would have to be worked out with the carpentry fitter.
• Which VAT rate is applied for renovations?
As SCB does not offer installation services, invoices are prepared at a rate of 19.6%. On the other hand, for a renovation, if a client requests work and installation from a professional, the invoice will be prepared at a rate of 5.5%.
• Which is the U coefficient for sash windows?
For mixed sash window carpentry: U=2.1W/m²K
• Does the SCB product range include French windows and sliding bay windows?
Yes, Marvin offers French windows (opening towards the interior), and English-style (opening towards the exterior) sliding bay windows. However, this type of combined door-window is almost too technical for the European market, because Americans are limited to high-performance French windows due to the varied American climate, from the freezing cold of the Canadian borderlands to the heat and humidity of Florida, or the East Coast winds. Also, French windows are 3-4 times more expensive than similar products in France.
• Which are the standard dimensions for sash windows?
Widths between 54 and 115 cm are possible, and heights range from 80cm to 204cm. Custom-created sizes are also possible but come at an up-charge.
